I proudly endorse Kelda Roys for Governor of Wisconsin!

I'm excited to announce that I endorse Kelda Roys for the Democratic nomination for the office of Governor of Wisconsin!

A few days ago, Kelda released this web video in which she talks about her efforts to ban the usage of the neurotoxin Bisphenol A in plastic products, such as baby bottles:

Kelda's web video got a ton of national attention, not because of her opposition to unhealthy chemical compounds in plastic, but because, during the video, Kelda breastfed her infant daughter while continuing to talk about her opposition to Bisphenol A. The video has been featured by, among others, People magazine, Cosmopolitan magazine, and Bustle.

I was going to hold off until after my home state of Illinois held its primary elections later this month, but, since her campaign has received a ton of national attention, I'll say this now...I proudly endorse Kelda Roys for the Democratic nomination for the office of Governor of Wisconsin!

The biggest reason why I'm endorsing Kelda's campaign is because of her steadfast opposition to the electoral college and steadfast support for a national popular vote system for electing the President and Vice President of the United States. When she was a member of the Wisconsin State Assembly, Kelda publicly supported making Wisconsin an adoptee of the National Popular Vote Interstate Compact (NPVIC), which, if adopted by a group of states with at least 270 electoral votes, would bind a majority of members of the Electoral College to whichever ticket wins at least a plurality of the national popular vote. My home state of Illinois (20 electoral votes) is one of ten states and the District of Columbia (which have a combined 165 electoral votes) who have adopted the NPVIC, but Wisconsin has not adopted it. If Wisconsin were to adopt the NPVIC, Wisconsin would become the first traditional swing state to adopt the NPVIC, and that would greatly encourage other traditional swing states to do so.

On other issues, Kelda is an ardent supporter of reproductive rights, supports protecting public lands, supports common-sense gun safety measures, and has a detailed proposal on how to ensure that every Wisconsinite has access to affordable and proper health care. Kelda is a common-sense progressive who supports policies designed to improve the lives of Wisconsinites.
