A big list of endorsements from The Progressive Midwesterner

Across America, there is a wave of energy for Democratic candidates for public office, and that's no different in the Heartland. Many Midwestern states have seen more Democrats file to run for seats in Congress or state legislative seats in this year's elections than in recent election cycles.

In this wave of endorsements from The Progressive Midwesterner, I will endorse multiple candidates who are running as a Democratic candidate in an officially partisan race or are running as a de facto Democratic candidate in an officially non-partisan race.

North Dakota Tax Commissioner - Kylie Oversen

Kylie Oversen, the chairwoman of the North Dakota Democratic-Nonpartisan League Party (DNL), is running for the statewide elected office of North Dakota Tax Commissioner. The Progressive Midwesterner endorses Kylie's campaign for tax commissioner in North Dakota, and you can learn more about Kylie's campaign here.

People like Kylie are the future of the Democratic Party, not just in North Dakota, but in the entire country. Kylie is intelligent, competent, and progressive. If elected North Dakota's tax commissioner, she will fully enforce North Dakota's tax code to the fullest and fairest extent and ensure that North Dakotans are able to pay taxes that they owe the state.

Kylie, who has the endorsement of the DNL, is running against Republican incumbent Ryan Rauschenberger. Ryan was arrested for driving under the influence of intoxicating liquors last year.

U.S. House of Representatives, 3rd Congressional District of Iowa - Pete D'Alessandro

One of the Democrats seeking the Democratic nomination in the 3rd Congressional District of Iowa, which includes Des Moines and the southwestern part of Iowa, is Pete D'Alessandro, who you may remember as a political operative for the likes of Leonard Boswell, Tom Vilsack, and Bernie Sanders.

Pete is running on a very progressive platform, including support for a $15/hour federal minimum wage, Medicare-for-All health insurance, and tuition-free college. The Progressive Midwesterner endorses Pete's campaign for Congress in Iowa's 3rd district, and you can learn more about Pete's campaign here. The winner of the Democratic nomination will face Republican incumbent David Young, who has been a rubber stamp for the far-right political agenda Republican President Donald Trump, in the general election.

U.S. House of Representatives, 4th Congressional District of Missouri - Hallie Thompson

Although her campaign web video hasn't gotten as much attention as web videos produced by the campaigns of political candidates in other states, Hallie Thompson, who grew up on a cattle farm in rural Missouri and later became a scientist who has done research on how drought effects corn, produced this fantastic web video about her congressional campaign:
Nobody understands rural Missouri like Hallie, and that's why The Progressive Midwesterner endorses her campaign in Missouri's 4th district. You can learn more about Hallie's campaign here. Should Hallie win the Democratic primary, she would face the winner of the Republican primary, which is likely to be Vicky Hartzler, the incumbent who is seeking re-election. Vicky voted against disaster relief for victims of Hurricane Harvey, which caused massive flooding in the Houston, Texas area.

Missouri House of Representatives, District 132 - Crystal Quade

In her first term as a Missouri State Representative, Crystal Quade has earned a reputation as one of the hardest-working state legislators in Missouri. Quade represents a state house district containing part of the city of Springfield, Missouri where Hillary Clinton got a plurality of the vote in the 2016 presidential election. The Progressive Midwesterner endorses Crystal's re-election bid, which you can learn more about here.

Crystal is a major proponent of women's rights, campaign finance reform, access to child care, and access to health care.

Three Republicans filed to run in a contested Republican primary in the 132nd Missouri state house district; since Crystal has no opposition in the Democratic primary, she will run against the winner of the Republican primary in the general election.

Wisconsin Supreme Court - Rebecca Dallet

One election that is just around the corner is the statewide, officially non-partisan election for one of seven seats on the Wisconsin Supreme Court, and two candidates received enough votes in the non-partisan primary to advance to the general election. One of the candidates is Michael Screnock, a far-right Scott Walker loyalist who has the support of, among other right-wing groups, the NRA, which is politically opposed to any reasonable measure to reduce gun violence, and has refused to pledge to recuse himself from court cases involving those who financially support his campaign either directly or indirectly. The other candidate is Rebecca Dallet, who doesn't take the NRA's money and, because she believes in the concept of ethics, has pledged to recuse herself from cases involving those who financially support her campaign either directly or indirectly.

Since it doesn't take a brain surgeon to figure out which candidate this blog is going to endorse, I'll tell y'all that The Progressive Midwesterner endorses Rebecca's campaign for a seat on Wisconsin's highest bench. You can learn more about Rebecca's campaign here.

U.S. House of Representatives, 9th Congressional District of Indiana - Liz Watson

Liz Watson is running for the Democratic nomination in the 9th Congressional District of Indiana, which includes the south-central part of the state. The Progressive Midwesterner endorses Liz's run for Congress in Indiana's 9th district, and you can learn more about her campaign here.

Liz has spent her entire adult life fighting for people. While in law school, Liz represented victims of domestic abuse and helped to protect them from the dangerous people who abused them. As an attorney, Liz represented working people who, among other things, were discriminated against for being pregnant or unfairly denied unemployment benefits. As the labor policy director for the Democrats on the House Education and the Workforce Committee, Liz helped develop the House version of the proposed $15/hour federal minimum wage bill.

Now, Liz is running for Congress in Indiana's 9th District as a progressive champion of working-class Hoosiers. Liz supports Medicare for All, equal pay for equal work, and LGBTQ rights, among other progressive ideals.

Should Liz win the Democratic primary, she will face the winner of the Republican primary, which is likely to be Trey Hollingsworth, the incumbent seeking re-election. Trey has been a rubber stamp for Donald Trump's destructive far-right agenda in Congress.
